1. Overview
This report summarizes the initial evaluation of the Ammunition Storage Components (ASC) 15-round magazine designed for 6mm ARC. The product was assessed to determine suitability for retail offering on our website.
⚠️ Note: All testing was conducted in a non-live fire environment. Only dry-fit loading and manual function checks were performed indoors. No live ammunition was discharged during this evaluation.
2. Initial Impressions
Build Quality: Finish and construction appear solid. Metal body is well-coated and feels durable.
Fit & Feel: Magazine seats properly in the lower receiver. Tolerances feel tight but acceptable.
Despite good initial impressions, significant issues were discovered during dry loading.
3. Test Results
Loading Issues
Feed lips were too narrow out of the box, preventing typical top-loading of 6mm ARC cartridges.
Manual loading (in more of an AICS fashion) was possible, but not user-friendly or acceptable for end customers.
Binding occurred after loading 4–5 rounds, suggesting internal clearance or geometry problems.
Feeding Issues
Tilt jamming and binding inside the magazine occurred consistently.
Suspected causes:
Poor follower geometry
Case taper incompatibility
Inadequate internal design for 6mm ARC
Modifications Attempted
Dremel used to widen feed lips
Pliers used to adjust lip angle to better match cartridge profile
No improvement in performance; binding persisted
Comparative Testing (Dry-Fit Only)
Evaluated alongside Duramag 20-Round 6mm ARC / 6.5 Grendel Magazine
Duramag allowed smooth top-loading and cycling
No binding or resistance observed in dry-fit testing
Live-fire testing has not yet been conducted on either magazine
4. Secondary Testing
The ASC magazine was provided to a third party for testing in a 6.5 Grendel rifle. Their results are pending. However, due to product labeling as “6mm ARC” and its failure to function in that role, no further testing is planned on our end at this time.
5. Conclusion & Recommendation
While the ASC 15-round magazine initially appears well-made, it demonstrated major functional failures during basic dry-fit testing:
Top-loading was not possible without modification
Feeding failures and binding were consistent
Modifications failed to correct core issues
Given these factors and the early failure point, we have ceased evaluation of this product. At this time, it is not recommended for sale. The Duramag will continue to undergo live-fire testing in the future, but currently shows strong potential based on dry function checks alone.
